Whenever the key is turned to accessory or other positions the voltmeter reads 12 or above but when I turn it to crank it makes a noise and the voltmeter shoots to 0. Can somebody help me out on why it does this and how to fix it.

Thanx

What year, make and model?

Where are you trying to measure voltage?

On the + side of the ignitoin coil you should get +12 (batery voltage) in the "start" position and around +9~+10 in the "run" position and 0 in the "accessory" position.

You should get +12 (batery voltage) on the solenoid of the starter at the "battery" terminal all the time and you should get +12 (batery voltage) on the other two solenoid terminals only in the "start" possition.
