Widening the track...

This may sound kinda obvious, but HOW much of an effect do you get by increasing the track of a Z...or any car for that matter....

I increased the front track by a 1/2" this year..(1/4" spacers so I could fit my larger brakes in my wheels)

And I am going to increase the rear track by 1"...(to fit larger rear tires..and better fill my flares...)

I'm wondering if it is a tangible difference, or am I going to need a really good stopwatch to see the effects on the track?

thanks all!

Scott.

why not just go this some aftermarket wheel's like some 14-or-15 by 10-inch'es wide, it would look really, really cool on all z's or even some 15 by 8 on the front and some 15 by 10 on the rear, would probally look like a 911 then

Hehe....... At work again?

and thinking about that fast little Z car of yours? Wouldn't wider be better? I would think so. Don't know about the spacers for a racer tho.... and I'm sure you will get some help regarding this issue :)

Hey Scott, Should I save my CV's for you when you run your wider tires with that motor of yours? Hehe :p

RE: Hehe....... At work again?

Widening the track can help handling, but there is a few down sides.
You increase the the load on wheel bearings(off set).Think of it as a lever, your socket wrench is easier to use with a pipe extension! The further away from
"center"it is, the more angular load can be applied using the same origonal force.
So the further off center your wheels become, the more wheel loads the bearings.
Racers can change these every race. You can't.
Sorry to sound scientific.
Enjoy your Z, David.U.(australia).
