Has anyone tried to turn the automatic volume control "off" on the upgraded Bose stereo (my apologies if this issue has already been addressed). The user's manual refers to it as Dolby NR (noise reduction). I have not yet received my Z, but I read about it after I saw the post. Here are the instructions (for you lazy folk who don't want to read the manual).
The auto sound circuit enhances the low frequency range automatically in both radio reception and tape and CD playback.
Audio button (Bass, Treble, Fader, Balance and NR (Dolby):
Press the AUDIO button to change the selection mode as follows:
Base----Treble----Fader-----Balance-------Dolby NR (when cassette playing). I take this to mean that you have to have a tape in the deck (playing) when you want to turn of the automatic volume control.
To change the NR (Dolby) mode to OFF or ON, press the up or down (Tune) button while cassette tape is playing. When dolby is ON, the display indicates a special mark (which I could not copy).
These are the instructions in the user's manual (page 4-14). I don't know if they will solve the problem. I don't know if Dobly NR will remain on OFF after you have ejected the tape. I have heard that the volume goes higher and lower at uncontrollable decibles. Someone try it and let us know what happens.
