In the process of restoring my 77 Z. Below is a picture of the steering wheel in its current state. From looking at the pic, I'd like to know if its possible to buy a cover or if its so worn out that I need to buy a new one. Thanks

get a good used one from online or e bay...280 wheels are very affordable. yours will take too much $$$ and time and will never look right imo

You may also consider and after market wheel, I was never a fan of the 280z wheel. It feels kinda truckish to me. I actually saw one mounted in an old Datsun truck and it looked more suited in there. MSA has a selection of wheels as well as many other places.

That one is beyond repair. We did, however redo our LeMons Z wheel that was in slightly better shape by adding a cheap slip-on cover and then an OE leather cover from a three spoke modern car over that. Once stitched up, it came out nice and thick and looks good. Since it was for LeMons, we didn't get fancy with the trimming or stitching. With a bit more effort and a better color leather cover it would look great.

I've seen an aftermarket somewhere that was wood on the circumference. That's what I would do.

You can get another 280 Wheel, a wheel from MSA or Black Dragon, a 240 Wheel looks nice.

Wheelskins.com sells a nice cover.

An expensive alternative is to have the wheel refurbished by a company like quality restorations.com.

I'm partial to the 240Z wheel. They are very easy to refurbish:

I 2nd the ebay thing, but 240z wheels are the best, IMO. Look sleek and are, as previously noted, easy to refurbish.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I figured getting it recovered would be more trouble than its worth,so I'm going to go with the new or junkyard route.

appreciate it
