I need some help with installing better rear speakers. I like to install it in the original speaker location and it's counterpart on the right side. It's easy on the left side where I have room and the original speaker's mounting panel. The problem is on the right side where I don't have a mounting panel and some hoses appears to be in the way. If any of you all out there have installed speakers in that location, please let me know what size speakers you installed with some mounting instructions. Thanks

Only installations (well done) on the right side of rear cabin were done after they had removed the vapor recovery tank and lines. However, I qualify the well done by the fact that the emissions stuff was removed and just capped off. Better to get a tail light / speaker mount cover assembly from Motorsport. Or fabricate your own mounts that mount in the tail light access holes. Make them so that you can remove the speakers easily for bulb replacement.

Some folks make a copy of the mounting bracket from the left side out of sheetmetal and install the same (6 in dia. I think) type of speaker on the right side. That's what the previous owner did on my Z. He only had to push the fuel evap hoses out of the way a bit, but they are still there and hooked up to the vapor tank. Sound still isn't great due to the direction BOTH speakers are pointing. ie NOT in the direction of the passengers. The rear speaker panel kit seems like it wopuld be a better place to put money and effort though in my opinion. Good luck.

The original postion for the speakers is very poor, sound wise. To fox the problem in my 280, I made some speaker boxes that fit behind the wheel wells. The speakers point up and the sound is good.I get a decent amount of base with 6" speakers and too much if I use the loudness button. To get at the tool compartments, I have the enclosures held down with plastic screw caps that tighten down on bolt threads that I mounted to protrude through the top. No storage space , to speak of, was lost and the interior was not modified.

I had the same problem, so I bought the Motorsport Speaker mount. It mounts in perfect and requires no cutting or modifing of your car. The only thing I did was add some extra thick trunck matting to my tailights, and rear pannel so they don't get vibrated so much. Also tuck your carpet under if you do get it, other wise you can't get your spare tire out. :)
