I copied this off of another forum's thread posted by deathinacan (I think he has an RX-7???)
Quote:
Attention all motorsports fans and participants, Sam Adams (Portland City Councilor) has taken a personal issue with PIR. As most of you may know, there has been a long standing feud between "neighbors" of PIR and the raceway especially regarding noise levels. Sam Adams is now a neighbor of PIR and become a very vocal spokes person regarding the impacts of the raceway on the neighbors. Don't pay attention to the millions of dollars being contributed to the local economy, don't worry that the closest similar venue is near Seattle Washiington and don't worry about the numerous events you each have either participated in or watched.

Noise is the door that opens to allow the termination of the facility. The adopted Capitol Improvement plan for PIR through the City of Portland's management has failed to be implemented for the past several years. Funds allocated to this facility have been redirected to other more socially acceptable needs. If Adams is successful in getting noise limitations, what type of racing will actually occur? Fight Sam Adams representing a small but vocal group of which he has a vested interest.

This post is to request you go to http://www.friendsofpir.com and register your support for the preservation of the track and its facilities. It costs nothing except a little of your time to fill out the form. The minorty gets heard because the majority shuts up and thinks everyone else will do their fighting. You need to be heard, your voice and vote counts!

Thanks for supporthing this organization!!!! And remember to pass this on to any person or group that you think is affected by the potential closure.

Project Alpha Productions, and MontesaEntertainment are currently planning to have the first Checkpoint of the West Coast Import Tour at Portland Raceway for this year's Tour - WE will be doing a Feature on our DVD to help promote the "friends of PIR" website accross the Nation - With our combined support, we can help save this legendary race track for performance enthusiests in the NW.

thanks for the help!

someone just posted something simlar saying the whiners run things because they make enough noise. too bad there isnt a way to muffle them instead. consider the registration done, good luck in that fight.

funny how people move someplace knowing there is a race track there, and then complain afterwards. imo the only people who are entitled tocomplain are those who lived there before the raceway was laid down. kind of like an airport didnt you see all those planes when you looked at the house? we lost our moto x track here recently because the dnr decided we upset too many animals or something and made us shut it down. was there as long as i remember.

It helps if you actually live in Portland ...

a thousand messages from out-of-towners and out-of-staters may not create the desired effect.

I support the race track's cause. People who move next to a track and then complain about noise should be summarily dismissed for the idiots they are.

Re: It helps if you actually live in Portland ...

i dont know about that, if this is the same venue that hosts cart races that is a big boost to a local economy. people from minneapolis would be just as valid posting support letters for elkhart lake as they would be for branierd. you dont have to be local to be a track user, anywhere within probably a thousand miles would be a valid support, especially if you say you come in for this event or that and usually spend a week at a local hotel, eat out while there, basically pump money into the local economy without garnering any local services. the more motorsports fans that write in to prove economic stimulus the more valid the support document campaign will be when it comes to a council meeting. ten thousand emails from all parts of the region is probably more influential than the 1000 local regular users. its a regional track as he said, and like our motox place that got shuttered, we had people from over 400 miles sending in letters, and our track wasnt anything great. not like a track like portland. i remember seeing something like a gijoe race there on tv or something. that has to be big bucks for the local area if its national television, no?

This has been going on for over a year now.

It will definately be a bad idea. The GI Joe's 200 CART race is about the biggest race we have at PIR every year. We also have the American Lemans, Historic races, SOLO, etc. even bicycle races...

Every weekend we have the Les Schwab street legal drags from 6-12 pm. It keeps a lot of racers off the streets. That should be worth it right there to keep PIR around.

Stupid people. It was loud before they moved there. If they move next to the airport, are they going to complain about the noise and have PDX shut down?

Same **** happened here with Shuffletown dragway north of Charlotte. Dumbasses moved there and then complained about noise and got it shut down. Total COMMIE GOVERNMENT BS, but hey that's exactly what you expect from a bunch of RepubliCROOKS and DEMONcrats!!!

I live next to Racecity Speedway here in Calgary and would never complain about the noise (it's been there a lot longer than I have).
Typical though...there is always one that ruins it for the rest.

what was that simpson episone that showed canadian taggers spraypainting 'obey the rules'---icemans comment sounds typically canadian: thought out and reasoned (as long as there isn't too much labatts involved-LOL) 'they were here first, so ive no right to complain! indeed! my thought exactly, sad people come in and insiste the environment conform to their demands, regardless of what it has been doing for thirty years. so this is the gi joe place. that is a big thing, it would be a shame to loose another big venue like that, especially a multiuse facility as those locals are describing.
