I just purchased my "dream car". A 1973 240Z, from the original owner. It runs great (so far), but does not have any dashlights or taillights. It does have headlights. The fuses look good, what should I check next? Is replacing the switch an option or too extreme? I am new in this "game", and I am sure this is the first of many questions from me, please be patient. Thanks for your help.

Then you probably don't have any front running lights either. Do a search for "combination switch" and see what you find (it's a common problem.) Since the headlights and running lights get power from different points it could be as simple as the running light fuse. Otherwise you'll need to pull the covers off the steering column and check the combination switch itself.

Replace all your fuses now, Yes they look good, but do it anyway, fresh fuses(and fresh contacts can make all the difference in the world.)

Others will hate to hear me say this yet again, but "Buy a FSM(Factory Service Manual)". It's good reading material as well as garage reference.

I have a service manual from Nissan Motor Co...is this the same as a FSM? It is orange and for my year and model of car. Also, when you said to do a "search", did you mean for this forum in the search topics? Don't mean to sound ignorant, but do not want to assume anything either. Thanks for the info. I will be replacing all the fuses, is there a trick to getting a good contact? Thanks again.

Have you tried checking/replacing the bulbs? Are select lights out, or are they all out?

Also, try cleaning and reconnecting all electrical harnesses under the hood. This fixed my horn.

Also check to see if the harnesses under your steering wheel cover for your combo switch are properly connected. This fixed my turn signals!

Honestly, it's often dirty/poor connections that cause these things.

Good luck!
