I am not sure why the gt-r was not sold in the us. I do know the skyline did cost more than the last Z 90-96 model. Nissan was having problems selling the last z with a 42K price tag. The gt-r was to expensive to compete in the us market...is my guess. I think the camaro/ firebirds did it. You could get a corvette engine for about 20K in these cars back in 93. Hard to match that, and now they will stop production on these gm cars. I think GM even damaged their own profit with these bargains.

The new Camaro Z28's run right at $22k, SS's about 26 to 27. Back in '93 they were selling for around $17-18k. Very cheap. Not sure what the Vette cost but it is a lot less than the 300tt's were selling for at the same time. I have also heard that the GT-R could not be converted to left hand drive due to the turbos, they sit right where the steering rack needed to be.

I heard somewhere...I think on the 2003 Z part of this site, that the skyline cost about $90,000 to have imported...I believe it's about $60k to buy it and importing and dealer markup is a killer. the price will be well under that since nissan will actually be importing them and having them already certified for US driving. I think the price will still be around $60-70K though. Expensive, but they're four wheel drive twin turbo monsters.
