There are 2 reasons someone would have an NA rear end in a TT.
1. They swapped a TT engine into their NA car, leaving the NA differential in the car. The entire rear subframes holding the differentials are different for NAs and TTs, so this is simpler by far.
2. In conjunction with #1 above, many people put the NA differential into their TTs (or just leave it in when they do a TT swap) because the NA differential has a shorter final drive ratio. The shorter gearing allows the car to reach peak horsepower and torque points in the RPM band faster, generally improving acceleration. However, with somewhat improved acceleration, you are limiting your top end speed with a shorter differential gear.
The NA rear end has a 4.08:1 differential gear ratio, while the TT has a 3.63:1.
Hope that helps.
