Try this....If your clutch is starting to engage 1.5" off the floor that may be too early. You can adjust the pedal free play in order to have the clutch engage a bit later, around 2.5" or so. To do this you need to locate the clutch master cylinder rod yoke that is attached to the clutch pedal. It is located about 3/4 of the way up. On the back of the yoke you will see the rod from the master cylinder. Follow the rod to the yoke and there is a 12mm locking nut. Loosen the nut and turn the rod clockwise until you can get the clutch to engage around 2.5" from the floor. It may take a bit of trial and error to get there. See if that cures your problem.
