This is probably best done with the AFM off the car.
Here is the procedure according to the FSM.
1. Remove AFM
2. Measure resistance between terminals 8 and 6. Should be about 100 ohms.
3. Measure resistance between terminals 9 and 8. Should be about 100 ohms.
4. Connect a 12 volt power source between terminals 9 (+) and 6(-).
5. Connect voltmeter + lead to terminal 8 and - lead to terminal 7.
6. Gradually open the flap by hand to ensure that the voltmeter indication decreases proportionately. If the indication varies abruptly, the problem may be in the potentiometer.
You should also check the insulation resistance between the AFM body and terminals 6,7,8,and 9. If any continuity exists, AFM is out of order.
Also, here are the resistances for the air temp sensor (same for water temp sensor).
Temp(DegF) Ohms
-22 20.3 - 33.0
-14 7.6 - 10.8
50 3.25 - 4.15
68 2.25 - 2.75
122 0.74 - 0.94
176 0.29 - 0.36
