Konig Rewinds = beautiful wheels,....... go for them, treat yourself.....

I bought a set of 15x7 Konig Rewinds from MSA for my 78 280z. I got the tire/wheel package and they have worked great. I really like the way they look and get lots of compliments. The only fitment issue I had was the front cap wouldnt go on even with hammering it, so I just painted my axel cap silver with that Autozone chrome spraypaint, applied the "Z" wheel cap sticker and nobody has noticed.

Looks GREAT. I want 'em. What size tire do you have on that car in the picture? Fills out the wheelwell REAL NICE! By the way. I recognize that skyline. I grew up in Miami. Now live in Lake Worth, FLA...

 

Thanks for the compliments...I have been looking for an excuse to post this picture! It was taken a couple of weeks ago while traveling to the SFZCC annual meeting.

The tires are Kumho 205/60/15. I put Tokico lowering springs on all 4 corners that gave me 1-inch drop in front and 1/2-inch drop in back. Then I used the strut mount insulators from the 240Z in back (actually the EXACT SAME as the front 280Z strut mount isulators) to give me another 3/4-inch drop in back.

Next time I am ready for tires, I am going with 225/55 (or 50)/15 in the front and 235/55(or 50)/15 in the rear. I have researched the width and these should fit with no rubbing issues whatsoever. They are a more agressive tire for autocrossing with a larger contact patch and shorter sidewall.

I just bought a set of 16 x 7 with Yokohama S Sports mounted balanced and delevered for about $1100. I love them! No problems at all, and they autocross so much nicer. Let me know if you want my tire guys number.

To make the front caps fit all you need to do is compress the hub/cap cover in a little using a hammer. I did that on mine and they fit perfectly. I have also been told that Nissan had two differnt size caps. One was taller then the other. Haven't seen a shorter one yet but thats what I've been told.

 

280z-Hab,what is the width of the rims?To run a 235 series tire in the rear,you will probably need to run at least 8-9 inch wide rim.I run 225-60-15 on 7.5 rims and have had some rubbing issues.I did bend the lip back under the rear wheel wells and this helped but every now and then I do get a slight rub,especially if I have a passenger with me.If you can find a 50 series tire,that would be mo better.Nice car.

 

I put a set on my '71 Z a few months ago with 215/60/15 tires that rubbed the front valance/leading edge of the wheel well opening on turns. I ended up replacing the front valance & parking light surrounds with a fiberglass unit that included a small lip spoiler from MSA. No more rubs in front.

 

two questions:
1. RAZ1, how exactly did u use the hammer to make the centercaps fit over the hubs?
2. I tried spraypainting the hub silver , but got a few drips on my wheels. I have the graphite Rewinds, will paint thinner remove the spraypaint and not the graphite color? thanks

On that page there are some rims called "Fast Forwards" that resemble the rewinds and are a whole lot cheaper ($350 shipped).

I've personally never ordered rims from them, but I've heard good stories and they seem to always have a good selection.

I prefer these myself over the Rewinds and Fast Forwards, Panasports and I'm too cheap for the Wantanabes.

 

UF240Z, there is about a 5/16 inch gap between the inside of the cap and the spindle. Take the cap off the hub and lay it on the ground. You will notice a lip on the cap and you will see that the top of the cap rises about a little under a 1/4 inch above it. That area needs to be flush with the lip. So taking a hammer and lightly tapping it down until it is flush will allow for the center cap from Konig to fit.Be patient so as not to hit the cap out of round.
