Ok, another problem with the police for me. Well today I was driving at 20MPH and a cop just pulled me. He decided to look under the car to see if I still had my Catalyst converter. Well, It wasn't there, so he decided to simply put an Inspection on my car. For now, I can't use it on the road anymore and it needs money I don't have to put on it right now to make it ''street legal''.

Anyone know a good place to have a catalyst converter? Or anyone with a old exhaust line?

Thanks for the help.

Ok first off it is called a Catalytic converter. It uses a catalyst (platinum) to help get rid of some of the smog forming chemicals your exhaust emits. It is very popular to remove them on older cars, mainly because people think they will see some performance benefit. Anyhow this is not really the case imo. You didn't say what car you have, but it is probably quite old. Go to a muffler shop that does custom stuff (one that bends up their own pipes). Have them order you a high flow catalytic converter that fits your pre-existing system and have them weld it in there. Then let us know if you notice any perceivable performance deficit. I doubt you will. Because of the platinum, cat's can be expensive, but it shouldn't cost you much over 200 bucks installed (i am guessing)

I don't see why you are pissed, its your own **** fault for breaking the law.

Why does everyone here seem to have such a HIGH ESTEEM for the laws of the land that ONLY APPLY to the little people??

Don't you realize that laws are simply there to raise revenue and harass your political enemies??

Didn't any of you pay attention to all of the democratic nominees that owed MASSIVE BACK TAXES??

Do any of you think that cops whether on or off duty believe that the LAWS they enforce also apply to them??? if you do I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

LAWMAKERS simply MAKE LAWS that they know they and the enforcers will never have to obey , unless of course they fall out of political favor that is.

Reply to paragraph four: I take offense to that. I know I'm only part-time, but I do pay attention.

DeClo: You're in Canada, correct? What was the officer's probable cause to pull you over?

You have two options. One - attempt to change/remote the law via the legislative process. Two - Obey or be punished. Every other discussion regarding how "useful or necessary", or what intentions are behind laws are irrelevant. If enough people think they are unfair, they will use their popular will to have it changed or removed. That is how the US has always worked. Bickering about oppression is wasted effort. Real world action is what counts.

We hope he's the exception. Most cops are ass holes. At least red is red and drives a Z. Perhaps he'll find a more noble career.

20 MPH is not against the law in which case, he shouldn't have been stopped. 20 mph OVER is a law breaker & getting stopped is expected.

I remember when probable cause was legalized. It's been down hill ever since. People used to say "well, what's wrong with them stopping you if they have "probable cause"? Only problem is the police lie. Of course if you lie to them, that's against the law. LEt's send them all to afganistan.

You guys would never fit in in my part of the country. Almost all the cops here are freindly guys who treat people with the utmost respect. I personally know several policemen from different agencies in my area and they are good guys.If you deserve a ticket you will get one but if you don't deserve it you won't get one. If you treat the cop any less respectfull then he is treating you then you will get the ticket , a search and maybe a free ride downtown.
Just like anywhere else in the world if you go around acting like a jerk you will be perceived and treated like one.
We all have to live with the rules. If you chose not to and get busted for it don't come crying and bitching. You get what you ask for.The old saying applies here- If you can't do the time don't do the crime...
You took the cat off or drove with out one. If you're driving on the road you are supposed to know the laws (the rest of us have to) . You made the choice now pay for it and quit crying. The cop was only doing what he was hired to do. He wasn't hired to ignore loud exhaust or look the other way if some steals your car. Do you get bitched about if you do the job you were hired for? You aren't special and don't deserve special treatment.
You are the type that complains when the cop does his job and expects him to jump to attention when you are the victom. Grow up and join the real world.
For everyone here supporting his poor poor me additude- does any of the above fit you too....?

Loud exhaust is probable cause that his exhaust is defective and possibly leaking exhaust fumes into the car. Exhaust fumes can kill you. Why this cop probably saved your life and you're complaining. I hope you don't notice the nose on you face.

Bad? No. Illegal, yes. The laws of the time dictated that what she was doing was illegal. She was arrested for it. If you do things that are against the law, you do what I spoke of in #2, you are punished. What happened afterward was a whirlwind of what I spoke of in #1- Activism to change the law. There is nothing wrong with this, as long as it is lawful. A large majority of what MLK spoke of was passive resistance. As you know, this allowed them to show their opinion, but not break any laws and be free from being detained as radicals or misfits. You can read any history book (you may be old enough to have seen it first person of course - I don't know your age) and see how effective passive resistance was. Most forms of civil disobedience do not work, the government has unlimited ability to oppress except in the event of overthrow - the violators will be caught eventually (the initial post of this thread proves it).

Another question is why we were driving only 20mph; maybe we knew our exhaust was loud and we saw the cop so slowed down to cut the dbA. Maybe--I wasn't in the car with "we".

As far as the laws and politics, civil disobedience isn't always for a cause, like Rosa. Sometimes it's just people that don't like the inconvenience of abiding by rules, like stopping at red traffic signals and stop signs, parking in front of fire hydrants, stealing their neighbor's dog, whatever. If cops were just out to make money they could work one hour out of their shifts and make more than enough to fill the till for the day for the municipalities. As far as the politics, like traffic and other laws, there's always a percentage that step out of bounds. Example is the percentage of real criminals within the population; everybody doesn't perp criminal acts but you have to have the laws or you won't have any control in a society.

There's nothing wrong with the law...But the cop was just so stupid. My car can't be on the road anymore only because of a rusted-out exhaust line. That's why I'm complaining! I agree that those laws are there for a reason but I hope people can see the difference between a daily driver and a once a week ride...

"Activism to change the law. There is nothing wrong with this, as long as it is lawful. "

Are you kidding me, what they did was UNLAWFUL!! Do you not remember all the dogs and beatings during that time???

Talking NEVER gets ANYTHING done but in your face UNLAWFUL disobedience does...kinda like the little VIOLENT Revolution we threw in 1776 THAT WAS UNLAWFUL!!

GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see the difference. YOU are special because you only drive your dangerous ,illegal car once a week. Shame on that bad bad policeman for working on your special week!
You said the cop was stupid!!!! He was smart enough to know the law and a loud leaking exhaust when he hears one. Really who is the stupid one here? Stop whining and pay the fine and either fix your car or stop driving it. You are no better than anyone else so stop looking for sympathy and put your big boy pants on.
