How much play should the distributor have?

<HTML>My 82zx seems to have a fair amount of play in the distributor. With the cap off, I can move the rotor with my hand to one side or the other. It seems to move a little too much to me. My questions are...

How much play is acceptable?

What performance quirks might too much play produce?

What would you do to correct this?

Thanks!

<HTML> You should have NO play!!! Play in any direction is bad. If it is rotational play than your timing will jump all around (very bad) and if it is rocking back and forth than the base and/or lower pearch assembly is bad (also very bad). Time to get a new distributor. I have a rebuilt one out of a '82 ZX that I'm not using anymore. E-mail me privately if you are interested.

<HTML>hey garry,

I think a rebuild is a good fix JD sells bushings i believe to fix this problem. we have a link to it on the bottom of Zdriver.com there is a link to his page and he goes into more detail about the distributor

good luck
