headlight prob

There was a headlight burnt out on my 78 280Z when I bought it, but when I tried to replace it they both stopped working. I can't seem to get 12V between any of the pins on the connector when the switch is on. I wiggled the wires and checked the fueses, but I can't make anything out of that junk wiring schematic Haynes gives you. Does anyone out there have a simplified wiring schematic for just the headlights or know what pins should go to what?

Quite possible the switch isn't making. You'll have to pull the steering wheel, then the switch (if it's anything like the 82 ZX). You can lightly file the contacts with a small emory board to remove the insulating funk between the contacts.

I had this same problem. I gave up and took it to my mechanic, turned out he had to replace the wiring harness for the lights. Hopefully I will get it back tomarrow :S *feels lost without his Z*

Did you check fuses or fusible links? If one was working before you messed with the other, I would suspect you blew something out during the process.

I have found that the headlamp wires entering the headlight buckets will chaff and either open or short. I have found this condition on three cars; the problem was within 6"or 8" of the bulb connector. I bet the rubber boot protecting the wires going into the bucket was shot, right? An anti strain bushing might have been a better idea.
