My memory may be somewhat faulty, but I recall a classmate back in the early eighties in university telling me about his very fast "Datsun 3000" which he described as having a straight six with SIX WEBER carburettors on the top. He was always burning through his exhaust headers. He got a speeding ticket while going at some great speed well over 100 MPH.
I can only find a SINGLE REFERENCE from a drag race results page on the entire internet. That page refers to a "DATSUN 3000" quite clearly.
I have a theory that there was no official car of that name, but that some race enthusiasts would take a Datsun 2000, and swap the inline 4 CYL. engine out and replace it with some sort of inline 6 CYL. engine (from what car, I don't know) and do other things to make it more of a race car (such as the six carburettors).
Does anyone here have the background to set me straight on what a "DATSUN 3000" might have been?
