A young friend of mine wrecked his Z late friday night.

He has a 71 240Z with a turbo setup.
I guess he was following a 5.0 Stang a little to close in the rain. Stop light turned yellow and the stang actually tried to stop slidding into my buddies lane and forcing him up into the median wall. The Stang didnt hit him, and continued to slide completely across the intersection as the red light runner cameras flashed off.

So he ruined his Enkie series 92 15" rim on the driver side front and folded the lower control arm as well as the tension rod. The frame rail is buckled pretty bad on BOTH sides. With the control arm and tension rod replaced the car pulls to the driver left and leaves the steering wheel clocked at about 10:30. The fire wall seems to have absorbed some of the damage as well. Looks pretty bleek...

So I showed him Mull's Production of the Hugo car... Specifically the frame rail video. Im sure a jig could easily be built to weld up a set of straight rails from one of the cars at the local wreckers.

Im not sure what exactly his plans are at the moment as he mentioned several ideas. One of which was to buy another car and swap everything over.

I was just a little saddened by the site as tonight was the first night I was able to see what had happened. I almost expected him to say he was messing around like a dumb arse, but that sucks.

Your buddy should have taken the hit and let the Stang pay for his car. Anything is better than being that "dumba$$ standing on the side of the road waiting all alone for the wrecker and the cop."

Like Ballistic said.
And since the 240Z would not have stopped in the rain either, ask your buddy to watch the traffic lights instead of some jerkwad Stang when the roads are slick.

You know what...thats a valid point. 2 performance cars going in the same direction, neither one of them prepared to stop at a traffic light. Perhaps its a good thing that he didnt take the hit, because what it does sound like is a speed contest on public roads gone awry. And he would have gotten a stupid ticket from a cop that would have really hurt.
And before you take up the defensive stance for your buddy, think about this: If your buddy was prepared to stop, guess what would not have happened?

"A young friend of mine wrecked his Z late friday night."

That says it all. Young, stupid & unexperienced.

The car is a trashed. Only thing that can save it is tubing the front end.

So was he following him or in the lane next? Your statement contradicts itself. If he was following then the stang sliding into the next lane shouldn't have affected your friend. If they were side by side and couldn't stop for the light, then that validates my first thought. A Z and stang late Friday night, can't stop for light - due to rain. Hmmm sounds like a race of sorts.

If you plan on racing on the street in the rain, do me a favor, email me and I'll buy your car before you wreck it. Win Win - you get money, a Z gets saved and other people are not affected.

I will not defend him, no offence taken. He should have been driving safely.

Also: He was following but in the other lane. Supposedly he wasnt messing around. Id like to beleive him, but who knows. I wasnt there and therefore dont know exactly what happen, but I can guess based on his history. He was either screwing around when he shouldnt have been, or his story is true and he was in the next lane over slowing for the light as the mustang tried to stop late for a yellow and slide into his lane and continued across a good portion of the intersection.

He actually has a really nice... rather HAD a really nice 240z. Its Blue with Blue interior... its original to. It sucks to see such a nice Z get crumpled for what ever reason.

I think from the sound of things he drove it home. Made no claim on insurance or report. Young and Dumb, should have been more careful. Or less stupid... which ever the case may be.

2 cars are rolling along a 4 lane... a Z and a Stang. Z is in the left lane. They come up on a traffic light which turns yellow. The Stang drifts left and your buddy has to swerve to avoid him and eats the wall. The Stang still couldnt stop blows through the intersection setting off the traffic camera. The Stang was speeding to do all of that swerving and STILL blow through the intersection.

Your buddy had to be going the same speed as or faster than the Stang when the Stang lost it. If he had been going slower (and the Stang was passing him on the right), he would have instinctively slammed on the brakes with the car going straight and the Stang would have missed. He instead cut his wheels, meaning he was nearly beside the Stang when the Stang cross the dotted line. The only way to avoid impact is to cut left.

There was a speed contest going on. Your buddy was streetracing in the rain.

"So whats your point, Ballistic?"

You need to tell your buddy that he's a dumba$$. He needs to hear this so that he doesnt go through life thinking he can drive.

I tell him he's a dumb arse all the time for the way he drives. I told him again when he showed me his car afterwards. He knows, but he's like 19 so he might as well be a Bubbles character cept he doesnt drive a 2+2 held together by RTV.

I try and give ppl the benefit of the doubt until I can really nail em. Then I figure they deserve it. I wasnt there and his story sounded like the stang was playing in the rain. I figured if he was to he would have hit the wall and slid alot farther just like the stang. I wasnt there so. It looks like one good hit into the rim shoved it back. I would venture he was only doing 10-15mph when he hit the wall that did all the damage. If he was going any faster I think the car would have had to be towed off. He limped it home I guess. Still he could have been fooling around in the rain. No worries Ill rub this one in his face for a long time to come... remember that car you had that looked almost exactly like the Wangan Z... The one that you smashed that one rainy night...
