Alternator??....

Today I've been hearing sorta a squeeling noise from under the hood at rpm of oh say about 3500. And later I noticed my voltage gauge was all the way to the top. I've had this alternator in for about 4 months now, no problems. i looked under the hood and nothing looked to be wrong. Then the voltage gauge was kinda jumpin around, low-to high....any ideas? oh and my friend drove it and he kinda drives a little harder than I...

Had kinda the same problem a while back turn out to be the clutch fan.

I had a voltmeter running high and jumping around and it turned out to be a battery out of water.

I have exactly the same thing going on. I have a new alt in there too. I'm going to check it out, hope it isn't the bearings in the new alt or the fan clutch or the water pump bearings...

I put a shorter belt on to compensate for the smaller pulley on the Maxima alt. It was a cheap Kelly belt but its what I had. Also found one of the pivot bolts that fell out of the mount, maybe shoulda used loctite...
Anyways, the squeal is gone.Good luck w/ yours.
