Well, most recently, and in effort to solve the "no high beams" problem, I took the advice of one of the forums pundits to remove the horn cover from the center section of the steering wheel as the first step in removing the steering wheel. The advice was to carefully "pry it off".
Carefully or not, if one begins to pry from the bottom where the plastic lower center stem (under the cover) slides over a spring and nylon or plastic spring post I guarantee you will break the hollow stem from the plastic housing it is a part of and end up with a floppy horn cover. I would assume if one then moves to the top and tries to pry it off from there, he will break the rest of it. I guess that's one way to get it off.
I looked through the complete service manual and there is no commentary on removal ther either. The best view of components is still rather pictorial only on page EL 23, 24.
So far, I have not read whether or not one even needs to approach things this way. Seems to me you would remove the plastic from around the steering column just bhind the steering wheel which also encases the switch levers and replace the light switch or disassemble it after it's been taken off.
So, here I sit with broken horn cover plastic.
I need some reference to a fiche for the plastic shape that rides on the horn springs or something to show how to get the thing off safely.
After that, perhaps someone can advise on the switch itself. I check with Nissan in Ames, Iowa today and the switch is now $113.
