Hey I got a 240z that has not been running for 9 years I changes sparks, oil, and fuel.. Then I took off the fuel injection system and put on su carbs... I'm not sure how all the hoses connect to them but I'm sure i have them in the right spot.... I have the car to the point where i have the chokes on and the gas on as well then when I start i get a lot of popping. and even sparks through the air horns... what's that all about??? thanks

Yeah I dont think the hoses are connected right well I can get the car up in the high rpms it sounds fine but it always dies.. It's really hard to keep the car running.. it pops and back fires... what's the cause of this?? I also has gass going through the valve next to the gas port what is that port...

These carburetors incude an overflow for the fuel bowl. Your floats are probably very ill-adjusted causing gasoline to overflow. The overflow can also cause severe richness in the mixture... which would explain the crappy engine operation and backfires.

Uh... 240Z's never came with fuel injection. The fuel ijection systems for these cars were produced by Bosch and did not appear on Z's until the 1975 280Z.

So, is there a specific reason as to why the car hadn't ran in 9 years? That sounds like an unfinished project.

By the way, keep the fuel injection. Thats bolt-on horsepower, gas mileage, and reliability all in one setup. Ditch smog equipment, get fresh tires & brakes, and see if you can hit Mach I.

Yeah the original engine was ditched then a 280z engine was installed and this had fuel injection... I have been trying to figure why the injection system is not working the injectors are not spraying I've looked at electrical nothing just wanted this car to run so I bought su's... do people buy complete fuel injection?? anyway so it's over flowing but I get a lot of what sounds like backfires right through the carbs... are they running lean and this is what happens when to much fuel is getting in??? thanks for the help

Lots of possibilities! What fuel pump are you using? The fuel pump from EFI won't work with carbs. It sounds like your old fuel pump maybe was the problem, anyhow.

The pump I have now is a universal pump from the autopart store.. It pumps 4-7 psi and for these su's they need 5 so that's perfect...
