I've been reading the previous posts and looking at people's upgrades. I was just wondering who has 450-500 hp with their L series motors. Do you have a website with a description of your setup. I don't care about the V8's, just the inline 6's producing the power.

Huh?

Ignore Bill. It can be done, it has been done, and it is still being done.

Naturally aspirated, you haven't a hope with a 2.8. Maybe with some nitrous it would be possible.

Turbo, definately. Take a look at Rebello racing's engines. Hoover, 240z Turbo, and others are around that 450hp mark or more. (hoover is like 550 I think) 350-400hp there are lots out there.

V8 is not the only option. It is probably the least expensive option when you are talking about this kind of power though.

there is a Z with 700hp L28

i read a magazine and saw that a car shop in Japan named "Ono engine works" made a L28 engine with twin turbo producing 700hp. well, i donno how much they spent but L can break 400hp. easily, of course if you have tons of money and time.
but good luck! i love L28 and am not gonna swap to V8 even it is cheaper.
L is the original engine and i want to make a monster Z out of its original engine.

your splitting hairs here Bill, the question was can the L28 get 450-500HP I recall no mention of a stock application, and for that matter how many cars out there are 450hp plus stock, and the ones that do cost a extremly good down payment on a home to buy, and maybe your right arm.

RE: yeah, what jeffp said!

Ok I have a friend with a stock turbo motor in a 280z.It is pumping like 420 at the flywheel and like 350 or so at the rear wheels. He has a turbo running 16-18lbs of boost and a hugh ass intercooler. His engine block is stock. Man it is fast!

RE: dont get hurt bill we are just trying to help

I would think a turbo Z motor is more reliable than the detroit motor because its not making all that power all the time. The detroit motor has to fight itself just to stay running in traffic. nobodys questioning weather a small block can make 500 hp, a well setup create motor can make atleast 350hp. And there is nothing special about it, its all about the cubes. Most smallblocks are built by drunken gearheads with no problem. It takes a real engine builder to get 500hp out of a Z motor. what I mean by real is not drunk.

Easy...

Motec EFI, Mitsu Turbo, large intercooler and the proper fuel/spark curves bolted onto a bone-stock L28ET motor with a P90-a HYDRAULIC head and 160,000 miles on it cranked 450HP to the rear wheels at Alamo Autosports two days before the New Mexico convention, and then was driven there, driven hard, and driven back. Talk with Steve "Stealth" Webb, Bill, expand your mind...

Yo Milo!

Yeah, I think we go ole Bill a-runnin. Good Dyno run, you definately are on the way with that setup! Dyno sheets have a tendency to send benchracers running for cover, kinda like timeslips do...

RE: Yo Milo!

I have taken it to the track one time and ran a 13.78 @ 110mph that was in low boost setting(.65bar) I had no traction in 1st and 2nd gear, so it is kind of useless to run high boost until I upgrade to LSD from a 87-89 Z31 turbo. As for know I am using a r200 from a 83" 280zxt. Later. Milo
