turbo spool-up and turbo lag

Without any risky or complicated modifications, how can I decrease or minimize turbo spool-up and/or turbo lag, to achieve full boost sooner. I have a stock '82 Turbo 280zx they have no intercooler. The next few simple mods I am considering are: A) Manual Boost Controller air bleed type. B) Plug or modify Pop Off Valve. C) Water/Methanol Injection D) Free flowing custom Fresh Air Intake E) Small preboost Nitro’s Injection Any help, insight or ideas would appreciated. Thank You J.Larr.

First step is to read up on turbocharging systems. This isn't something you can really do piecemeal. You have to have a clear idea what you want. From the post its obvious that you don't know what turbo lag is or what causes it. We can give you options but you need to know what you want and how to get there.

I would agree with MeAndMyZs. There's a very good book you get quite easily on every bookstore you might consider:
http://www.amazon.com/Maximum-Boost...Performance/dp/0837601606/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1236428191&sr=8-1

Afterwards, best way to reduce spool would be to free up your exhaust and intake, change the boost management (MBC is a good start).
Blow off valve won't change anything as far as spool/lag, it will mostly help to reduce boost taper at high rpm.

To do those modifications, you'll need some devices to make sure everything is OK, especially the MBC; you need a reliable boost gage.
CAI will lean your mixture, you might want to make sure you're ok with that even if there's a very minimal change to get troubles.

Other stuffs to consider that are more "serious":
Remap, change your turbo with one with ball bearing inside (but you'll need all the supportive mods for that: intercooler + Piping, BOV, remap, etc)

One very cheap way as well is to check for boost leaks, since you don't have intercooler, there's very few connexions but we never know.

Water/Methanol system is to keep your compression chamber cooler to raise boost, add an intercooler first.
Nitro is probably nost the best solution neither.

You might hear about anti lag system as well, if you care about your turbo, do not consider it neither ;)

Last advice, go on hybridz there're tons of info about what you're looking for.

From my experience increasing exhaust size helped the most. If you can go to atleast a 2.5in downpipe with a 3in exhaust that would be a good start. The best would be 3in from turbo to muffler.

First figure out what exactly is wrong with your car. A stock 280zxt will develop full boost by 2800 rpms or so.

Wrapping the hot side can make an amazing difference and or a turbo blanket, also an electronic boost controller the bleeds aren't worth spit.

Cheapest is make certain you don't have leaks

Also methanol/water injection is often used in place of an intercooler. It will also help spool. If I didn't have an intercooler I would do meth FIRST! I added meth to a car with an intercooler and made ~30 rwhp more.
