my buddy's 76 does absolutly nothing when the key is turned to start it, the battery is good, the starter is good, i made sure the battery wasn't grounded out and the connections were nice and tight, i checked where the wired plug into to the back of the ignition (where the key goes in) i checked the fuses....i had this problem with a ford explorer one time and it turned out to be the "starter relay" is there something comparable on a z-car and if so where exactly is it located.
thanks,
Chris

I had the same problem in my 74' 260z and after several days of wire chasing i found that there are little safety switches that would keep the car from starting unless those conditions were met, ie.. The clutch pushed in all the way, the seat belt fastened etc. All those things are well and good but after 28 years those swithes go bad so i bypassed the whole system and rewired my own starter system with relay.(on my 74' there was no starter relay from the factory) Works every time with no hesitation at all. If you are interested i can give you all the info if thats what you want to do. Let me know. Big John.

My '77 have some starting issues. It will not start by turning the key, the only way to start it is to arc the starter or remove the electrical part of the key switch and stick a screw driver in it. The previous owner rigged a switch between the starter solinoid and the battery, If turn on the key and hit the swtich it'll start fine...
