I have an 83 280ZX n/a that has a body in pretty good shape. The engine, tranny, and suspension are shot to ****. I like the size of the 280ZX over the 1st gen cars....I know it's heavier....and am interested to know if anyone has built a track car out of a 280ZX. I'm just looking for a toy, nothing to seriously race. I would strip the car of everything that I could and think about putting a V-8 in. Just toying with the idea...any input would be great.

Talk to 280zdragger on here. He has built a 3.1 stroker non turbo drag car out of his 280zx. Not the fastest Z but he is in the process of making it faster and I believe it's set up for the track more than just for street use. Call him out on this board as I'm sure he would be willing to help. He is a great guy to talk to.

the 280zx really isn't all that heavy. Especially when you compare it to modern cars! Mine weighs about 3000 lbs and it is a 2+2 gl model. If you stripped one out, it could probably weigh as little as 2600 lbs. That is light for any car nowdays. And really light when compared with some old muscle cars. You can make the zx handle pretty good too. All I have done to mine is struts, springs, and swaybars, and it handles really good now.
