1981 280Z fuel pump power

I have a 1981 280Z and I cannot get power to the fuel pump. I turn the ignition switch on andthe pump does not start up. Then Itest the leads, using a 12 volt test light,at the fuel pump electricalplug in the rear where you access or remove the electric fuel pump and there is no power going to the pump. I have checked all the relays I am able to find and they all seem to be operational. Can someone help mein finding the correct relay or fuse or what ever it isthat has stopped power from reaching my fuel pump. Or if anyone has any other idea as to what may be going on with my fuel system please weigh in because I am open to any input since I am not a master mechanic. I will say this, I am sure the problem is somewhere in the fuel system because I can spray starting fluid into the intake and my car will start and run as long as I continue to spray the starting into the intake while it is running. Thanks so much for any help you may offer.

There is also a hidden relay behind a plate on the fender ,inside the engine compartment, behind the battery.
But do as Ribby says first and get the free Manual download. It is an absolute must for electric/fuel problems.

Just because a relay "operates" doesn't mean it can pass 12 volts to the next object if the contacts are cooked. Norm K.

since the pump is located under the car in front of the halfshaft and to my recollection wired direct via a couple of studs withnuts to hold themwhich are covered by some plastic substance are you sure your aren't testing the fuel sender instead of the pump.

RogerZ!!!! Thanks so much guy..... It would be easy to make that mistake if you aren't familiar with these cars.. I'm off work tomorrow and plan to check out the fuel pump and hope to locate my problem. Great to have you guys around that have "been there and done that".. Thanks again for responding to my question and I'll let you know what I find...
