Those kits are junk. If you want to upgrade to a turbo find a wrecked l28et out of a 81-83 280zx. It is a direct drop in.

 

I figured this much, i am doing a rebuild and want to add a little punch to my L26 without doing a swap.

 

While some of the parts in those kits are ok, a lot of the stuff is cheaply made and doesn't last long.

I don't have a lot of room to talk, seeing as I'm running an eBay turbo, but only until I have the money to invest in a Garrett.

But the thing with those eBay turbo kits, is they list the same "universal kit" over and over, with a different car name in each title. So no matter what car you search for, the same kit is going to keep coming up. Most of the kits don't even have the right intercooler piping bends.

And if you're wanting to turbo your L26, you're going to have to go through the pain of setting up a blowthrough system. In the long run it'd be cheaper to do an EFI turbo swap.

 

You can get the turbo, stuff and make your own kit from the ZX. As long as you dont go over 8psi.

 

their turbos dont really last more than 20k miles, and thats if you take extremely good care of them, no surge at all, proper cool down time, etc. etc., their wastegates are crap, my friend had a turbo kit from ebay on his rsx and the wastegate failed shut and it shot 26psi through his engine and ate up a piston.

your best bet especially if you're trying to work with the stock internals, stock fuel management, etc., is stick with the stock turbo and work with it, if you can find a turbo parts car with a complete motor, that is the easiest.

 

Don't know anything about the kit, but I can promise you it won't make 485hp at the crank even with a "built" engine. You will need a good engine management system like megasquirt or better if the turbo kit works. Also, having had a Turbo Tom carb kit in the past, an injected system is much better.

 

Look around.
In the past month or so, I've found a turbo ZX driving shell (stripped of useable parts aside from drivetrain) that I traded for a body kit and I am soon going to pick up this 500 clam beast just pulled from a weekend 240 track car.
