I have a 79 zx 2+2, I left on vaction 2 weeks ago and the car ran great, I came back and decided to degrease the engine. I started it after to dry everything out and it starts fine and runs great until it reaches 3000 rpm when the engine just quits, it doesn't just lose a little power, it's like you just turn the car off until the rpms drop down a bit then keep going like normal till it reaches 3000 again. I think I got something wet and it will dry out in a few hours, but I'm just curious if anyone has any idea of what I got wet to cause this.

Sounds to me like your ECU has gone into fail safe this is like a limp home mode when a major malfuction happens, most likely cause on a Nissan would be a bad air flow meter, try to wiggle the connector to it or, better yet disconnect it and inspect the connectors for signs of corrosion. Then try to start it again.

I know the answer to this one! I just can't remember it off the top of my head. John Washington at VR Engineering had this exact same problem after degreasing his 77Z engine. The problem is either the TPS or the AFM getting water shorted. Call him at 602-967-3289 I know he'll be more than happy to tell you which it is.

Check your throttle valve. I had the same problem after washing my engine at a car wash. I was able to get it over to a Z mechanic and he blew out the throttle valve and that fixed it. Check the archives on this site for throttle valve. There is a posting with a picture showing where the valve is.

I had the same problem with my 83 ZXT. The throttle position sendor pionts up and get filled with water some how, ( It did it when I washed my engine). I had a crack in the connector boot. I disconnected the connector, dried it out with paper towel and then a heat gun, worked great. I then put some electrical tape on the connector to keep it from happening again. Hope this helps.
