1979 280zx, been running completely fine, within the last 2-4 months ive replaced the alternator and the battery. But I just drove down the street to a friends house, and when i got in my car to leave, it didnt start. it just did the thing where it clicks over and over until you stop trying to start it. I had someone come and jump me but the voltage meter was getting really low by the time i was almost home. I havent the slightest clue whats up.

other clues are: the "break" dash light is on, but my hand break is not engaged, also I can hear a slight wooshing noise from the front of my car when driving at high speeds, but i do suspect it is due to my whipers not going all the way down to where they are supposed to be.

Check both ends of the battery cables (that's 4 total ends) for corrosion. Charge the battery and see what happens. Have the battery load tested just to make sure. Where did you buy the alt. Chances are it is the alt. I went thru 5 of them until I got one that lasted more than a week. The last one tested good at Autozone but I had them refund it and went to O'reilly. It took 2 there.
Are your battery cables any good? Loose and/or corroded terminals can cause this. Maybe your starter is getting ready to quit for good. break means something is broken. Brakes are what stop your car. You need a little more troubleshooting data to determine what this might be. First thing you might do is take it to a battery shop and have them load test the battery and check the charging system. "New battery" can be not good as i found to my chagrin when I finally had one tested that caused my Z to have gremlins.
