Hey Guys,

I have two R200s from 280zx Turbos ('82 vs '83). I need to know which one is better.
They are slightly different. The cover plate is the same, but the housing is different. The casting is very similar, but definitely not the same.

Also, when you look through half-shaft holes, the '83 diff has some sort of plate in the center that blocks the view from one side to the other. The '82 has a bar about the size of your thumb in the same location as the plate in the other diff. You can see straight through it.

Anyway, why are these two differentials different? Did Nissan go to another supplier in '83? Which one is better?

Thanks
SB

Could it be a R180?

Someone (thanks) sent me a link that indicates that the Turbo automatics had R180s. If this is true, then I'm comparing a R180 to a R200 and my question is answered, because:
The '82 car was an automatic. The '83 IS a 5-speed.
The two diffs look so similar though. I thought a R180 was noticably different.
If anyone can back this up, please let me know.
Thanks
SB

Oops.

I think I read the info in error...It says:

280ZX 81-83 Automatic all (3.545) (R180)
280ZX 81-83 Turbo - all (3.545) (R200)

I guess this means Turbos, auto or not, had R200s.

So now I'm back to square one...
