I am in the process of rebuilding my 81 turbo motor. I was wondering if I should just use the stock redline of 6400 when I drive it (after break-in of course) or if I can use a higher redline. I know that turbos don't especially like high revs because they're spinning like mad anyway. I had the bottom end balanced from front pully through the flywheel and I have a new schnieder racing cam kit in it. New cam, springs, lash pads, retainers and rockers. I just love the way an engine sounds at 8000rpm, maybe I'll build an na for that???

I you had the rolling assembly balanced then you could
probably safley go to 7000-7200 but 8000 sounds iffy.
If it were a 2.4 liter then 8000-8500 would be very plausable.
But being a 2.8 turbo The bore, stroke and cylinder pressure probably won't allow it without problems.

Caleb...

The factory computer has a rev-limiter built in. I found this out when flooring it in 1st gear. The limiter kicks in at the factory 6400rpm. Unless you have it removed by Jim Wolf or someone like that, you are stuck with the 6400rpm limit. However, I wouldn't spin it any faster than that anyway. The turbo will make the power you need, not the high rpms.
