I've got a 71 240Z and am trying to put in relays for H4 headlights, so I cut the wires for the headlights between the fire wall and headlights, when I went to check the power with a test light, the wires from the firewall side have no power but from the headlight side there's power! What the **** is going on here I swear this is true but don't understand it When I hook the two wires back together the lights work fine but when I try to put in relays only the high beams work, I've been messing with this for two nights and am begining to think I'm crazy, am I? If this has happened to anyone else please help me.

sounds like you only cut one side to the headlights. i think datsun
has 2 fuses for each headlight. also, its wired in a series... if one fuse burns
the current feeds over to the other headlight.. so one light is bright and
the other is real dim but works and shows voltage with a voltmeter

Each headlight has a separate fuse/power source. R/h headlight power wire is Red, l/h headlight power wire is red/yellow. The red/black and red/white wires are the common ground wires (one for high beam and one for low beam) that acheive ground by going back through the dimmer switch on the column.
