I did a search on "wheel offset" (in Lycos) and found two different definitions of offset. The guy at this URL; http://www.usacomp.com/Offset.htm has a good explanation but I think he is in the minority when it comes to the definition of positive and negative offset. He's absolutely correct about backspacing!

The guy at this URL; http://home1.gte.net/macross/offsetFAQ.html is probably right about the definition of positive and negative offset. The first guy has better diagrams.

In any case, your 260Z need 3.5" of back spacing. So if you see some wheels on Ebay that are 7" wide but have a positive offset of 25mm (1") they will not fit. Your tire will rub on the suspension. They're backspacing is 7/2 +1 which is 4.5"

I hope this helps.

Actually, a 7" wide rim has an 8" width lip to lip. Therefore, a 7" rim with 4" backspacing is actually a 0 offset wheel, unless the guy at the wheel store is a fool.
