I have a 280zx from up north ,it has some wax like stuff in the motor bay .the stuff is still plyable .Someone told me that it is something they put on cars from up north to keep the salt from getting to the metal.I live in the south and do not want this stuff on my car,it is yellowish and will not go over at the shows.How do you remove this stuff

I don't know what it is, but I had it on my 83, which was a Southern Calif car so I don't think it was added for weather protection. I removed it with a strong solvent. The best that I found for removing it is goof off which is a available at a Home Depot type store. That and a lot of rags and rubbing seems to work and did not affect the paint.

>When I was in college I worked at a place that unloaded cars from the ships from japan and processed them in. They were coated with paraffin wax before shipping to prevent corrosion. To remove it, they had a commercial car wash machine, but used hot kerosene instead of soapy water.
I would try kerosene on yours.
