The gearbox in my 260Z is getting a bit old. I understand the synchros are fragile and very expensive to replace. I have been told that a 240K 5-speed and 280ZX 5-speed ‘bolt straight in’. Has anyone else made this substitution? Do they really bolt straight in? are there other gearboxes that can be swapped without modifications?

These gearboxes fit into 260Z

Use the transmission calculator to find the "right" transmission. This little java app has all the options. All of them are "bolt in". Some require a few mods, but nothing you can't handle I'm sure. Check it out here:

Any L-series(4 and 6 cylinder) motors transmisson will bolt up to the you motor, so any 70-83Z transmission should work perfectly, except the 82-83 turbo borg warner t-5 needs a little modifcation(driveshaft and crossmemeber) to fit an early Z.
