I've been wondering, but afraid to ask this.

What the heck is the black cylindrical thing attached to the firewall in my engine compartment next to the brake mastervac? It's attached to the throttle linkage with some bead chain and has a couple of vacuum hoses connected to it.

Why do I have bead chain running through a little pulley connecting the clutch and brake pedals?

What about that little box down there that says speed control?

Yup, I'd say somebody put an aftermarket cruise control in your car. You got any funny doohickies (sorry gramps couldn't help it) attached to your turn signal or instrument panel?

No funny "doohickies" here!

No, there aren't any cruise control looking doohickies on my steering column. I guess the previous owner must have removed the controls but left everything else. Thanks for the help.
