The tires on my 87 NA are wearing a little prematurely. The odd thing about it is that the right rear tire is wearing in just the center, not on either side of the tread. Mechanic in town went to alignment and saw nothing to fix, other than the tie-rods are a little loose. Any guesses? Thanks in advance.

are the tires over inflated? due to the negative camber, the inside edge has the most contact normally. If the center is wearing the tires may be filled too high.

Premature tire wear in the center of the tire is going to be due to over-inflation of the tire.

It would be helpful to know what rims and tire sizes you are running. The negative camber in the rear is not significant enough to cause premature wear in most cases.

As far as the loose tie rod goes, you might want to go ahead and fix that. That tie rod should have no more than a 1/16" play in it.
