I think this is the water temperature switch that has broke on my car, used to have two wires coming out of it (one to harness and one to ground)... the PO apparently soldered one of the wires back onto it, but was on very loose and broke off when I was cleaning the other sensors' connections... I have searched forums for this, and parts catalogues and i think they have quit making this part.. All that is available is the ones with the two prong plug-ins, and I don't know if that would work the same as these since they would be different on the inside of the thermostat housing... Could someone tell me if it would be an effective replacement..
it looks like a switch on the aux air valve bracket on an 82-83 zx. on an 80 there is a PVV, (PVS,) there instead. I have one from an 83 maxima. pretty common part. If its on the thermostat case, its a temp switch, called a local part store?
Does your engine have the dual pickup coils in the distributor and does the second one function still? The switch just tells the ignition module to use the other pickup when the engine is cold, to give ~6 degrees of advance (I think it is meant to keep the idle up while the engine is still getting warm). Your engine should run fine without it, it will only use one pickup coil. Your idle speed might be slightly lower when cold though.
Give PDX a cigar!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know my 76 has both the dual pickup dizzy and this sensor which, btw, is still available from Motorsport auto. I bought a new one from them a few years ago.
Thank you for your reply's... I have followed links and found the part number with a pic of the part, this is exactly it and hard to find... the only place besides Russia that I can seem to order this part from is listed below along with a pic. for anybody else who may run into this problem and finds this post...
