Hi! I'm assisting someone in selling their 1976 280z manual. Can anybody provide advice on how it should be handled, as well as value? We're located in California, the car's in Bakersfield. One owner, no dents etc. He drove it into the garage around 1999, and never drove it again. Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks So Much!

I suggest you search out Z-car sites and check classifieds, search Craigslist nationally, and look for completed auctions on Ebay and Bring A Trailer.
But condition, especially rust, is EVERYTHING. If it's rust-free (which just might be the case in Bakersfield) then it's worth a lot more. It will need a lot of cleanout and maintenance to clear out old fuel and oil regardless.
A one-owner car with no rust could be worth serious money, and it's worth doing good research on the market. If the interior is in good condition, that's a big plus. You may want to take photos and share them here for comments.

Thank you for replying. Should we have it towed to a mechanic, or are there mechanics that will come on site? The owner asked if he should push it out of the garage, put gas in it and try to turn it over. I told him to hold off. He said there's no rust or body damage. The center console has a "tear" but he claims the balance of the interior is "in good shape". Also, he did have a sunroof installed professionally, right after buying the car, which I read yesterday is frowned upon.

Well, the paint is gone, and the seats have been rather hideously re-upholstered. The owner's "no rust" may be based on walking around it, but market value depends on getting inside and under the car, checking the frame rails, the rocker panels, the lower fenders and the areas under the hatch.
At this point IMO it should not be gassed up; 21 years is long enough that the fuel tank may be leaking and the fuel lines may be plugged. Any fuel remaining in the tank is a vile substance and should be drained and the tank cleaned. If fuel has been sitting in it, the tank likely has rust problems and will probably need to be dropped, chemically cleaned and re-sealed.
I would suggest that you share your location and ask for help with locating a Z-car specialist or enthusiast who will visit and give a more educated opinion.

From the pix it looked like the paint is gone. Providing more accurate visuals will help. No offense, but I have to react based on what I see.
The upholstery on those seats is not original to any Z-car I have ever seen. I've owned a 71, 76, 82 and 83 and I've seen a lot of others. I think the information you are getting may not be accurate.

He was here when I got your message. YOU ARE RIGHT! He considered it "original" because they had it reupholstered, plus a/c and a sunroof added immediately. I explained that that's NOT original, even if it was done right after you drove off the lot. No offense taken, I appreciate your help and guidance.
He believes it won't take much to get running.He plans to do that first, then get it detailed. It appears to be too hard to sell as-is.
