Howdy folks!

Here is a really simple question about the valves on my L28
N42 engine.

I have a Hayes manual for it, but the specs on that engine
weren't added until the last minute, so they're in a supplimental
secion in the back of the book.

The confusing thing is, it lists the valve clearances for the L24
and L26 engines, (and according to the book they're the same),
but it doesn't list the clearance for the L28!

Is the valve clearance on the L28 the same as on the L24
and L26? I need to adjust 'em.

Thanks a ton for any advice. I live in Santa Cruz, CA, and
nobody around here has ever heard of a Z. :)

Doc here, the correct valve adjustment is HOT Settings: Intake .010 Exhaust .012 Be sure to adjust with the cam lobes at the top and do only two at a time. Start at the front 1/2 of the engine, then go to the rear 1/2. That way you won't miss the adjustment of some of them.

I hope that this will help............. ZDOC OUT.............. :^).........................

This How to rebuild datsun OHC motors also recomends adjusting the clearance without the little rocker arm spring attached also. They say you get a better reading without the tension it adds. I've tried it and tend to agree, that spring likes to move the rocker arm a little to one side or the other at times.
