Ok i got a 83 280zxt went to adjust the valves today. And no can do the haynes and chilton both say the same thing. Loosen locknut turn pivot adjuster to change clearance. So i took valve cover off and mine is nothing like this. It looks like i have hydraulic lifters but this should only be on 84 and later so what gives

ok this my or my not be the right answer. 83 was the last of the 280zx. I m wondering if some of the part late 83 use some of the 300 parts?

Not exactly, but some of the P90 heads (on turbos) did come with hydraulic lifters which some people say are better for performance up to a point (the point where the hydraulic pressure from the oil isn't sufficient to maintain accurate adjustment) But yes it is somewhat more rare to have the hydraulic lifters, but by no means is it an oddity.
