My heater control panel does not switch the blower from defrost to vents or anything. I have vacume problems off the engine and need to know if these controls are vacume operated. Also would a lack of vacume pressure decrease fuel mileage?
Thanks for any help.

as far as i know the controls ARE vaccum operated, i was screwing around with the vaccum system in my car and i pulled on what appeared to be a vaccum tube going to the cabin , since then my vaccum system losess pressure on deceleration and i have coolant leak in the cabin (planning to take the heater system out compeletly (i live in LA).AC already was ripped out. cheers

Yup, it's all vacuum operated. You should be able to trace a vacuum line running from your intake manifold over to the passenger side of the engine compartment. There you'll find a vacuum reservoir that's white plastic about the size of a 1 liter bottle. Lines wil run from there up to two vacuum solenoids located on the pass. inside fender. Form there a line runs into the firewall to your control panel. These lines are notorious for cracking over the years and loosing your vacuum. Check them out. I'll bet they're cracked or even disconnected.

Re: Tracing the lines

>I have seen this bottle under the hood and never knew what it was for. Now I need to know where to run the connections. The Hynes manual I have for the car kinda sucks when it comes to this area. If anyone can help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Re: Tracing the lines

> Craig,

If you'll email me your address I'll try to photocopy the vacuum schematics in my shop manual and drop them in the the mail to you when I get a chance. I have a 78 but I think they're all the same for the 280Z.
