hey, the diff on my 280zx at the moment is rooted and i have a diff sitting in my shed but i know nothing about it. can someone please help me

im not sure if it is the top or bottom but on one side it says:

757
82 3
KN 23

and on the other it says:

S60
757
and has a big K on it also

can someone tell me anything about this diff???
the year? the model? anything like that would be great?
and how many teeth does it have on the crown of the diff gears?

As I understand it, the casting on the diff housing mean nothing. Same goes for transmissions. You'll have to pop of the rear cover and count the teeth to determing the ratio unless you know what car it came from.

I have heard also that the casting numbers are no help in identifing what year, etc. If you pull the rear cover off, slowly rotate the ring gear around until you see a small number stamped on the edge facing towards the rear cover the number will be in a similar fashion to this:

39:11

Take the first number and divide by the second and you get the ratio of the differential. In this case it is 3.545:1

39 / 11=3.545454545
