Turbo removal... From the back?

558 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Luminar
I'm planning on pulling the trans out later this year to delete EGR, install downpipes, put in a new clutch, and a few other minor things... I was thinking... Maybe this is a good time to have the turbos rebuilt...

Would it be "Easy" to remove the turbos from the back of the motor with the transmission out?

Easy being a relative term...

Well according to the FSM it is..

But, I have never done it, and I would not want to, I've heard that the drivers side is a PITA to do. I am sure it can be done but my biggest fear is not being able to bolt things up right because of weird angles. If i was you and had the tools I would just pull the engine, lol your almost half way there with the tranny out!
Maybe one of the pros could chime in..
You'll thank yourself later for pulling the engine. If you have plenty of time and like a challenge then try to do it through the back. Otherwise I'd not suggest pulling the turbos without pulling the engine
