I've been reading ZCAR.com and I don't know why everybody says that you MUST convert to zxt wiring harness when converting NA to turbo. I run a '79 zx NA with a stock NA motor with a turbo, larger injectors and starion intercooler. I was dynoed at 225 at the wheels and run consistent 13.4's on street tires. I have my streo an air conditioning too and use my STOCK ECU AND WIRING HARNESS. The car is a blast. The guys at Z-1 auto did MY conversion and to my knowledge have done quite a few.

Here is the situation. You are about as maxed out as you can get without killing the motor. Read Tim's response which is very good and I agree with his statements. With what has been done to you car is about all you can hope for. A stock turbo model was rated at 180HP as compared with I believe 130-140HP from the N/A. Also you can take that 81-83 turbo motor in almost stock form to 300HP with $600. The reason you are running an intercooler is to help you not melt down your engine. The larger injectors are to feed as much gas as you can with your limiting higher compression ratio. The turbo models run less compression in the block to allow more air and gas into the engine for the larger bang. Your restrictions come from your intake manifold, throttle body, AFM, head design and compression ratio. All of these items are what is found in the stronger turbo motor. The ignition system is the crutial element in this system. This system monitors everything from head temps to detonation which is crucial for motor longevity. Save your original engine and go out and get a used turbo motor and implant it along with the harness.
