i just ran the car at the track the other day.

12.72 @117mph

not bad for cheap drag radials and 17PSI

well after 3 runs i started noticing a light rattling comming from the transmission (possibly clutch assembly). You can only hear it at low speeds (5-10mph) and its only when in gear. I can still go into all the gears easily and it drives fine even under boost.

So what can it be? is the transmission toast?

its a 82'NA 5speed hooked to a 6 puck dual pressure plate clutch

More info:

i just drove it around and the light rattling increases in speed as i engage the syncros with the clutch disengaged, so i was wrong about it only making the noice in gear.

If the noise speeds up and slows down with the speed of the syncros i guess i have my culprit - bad syncros.

I guess it was inevitable, i mean it seems like a common problem in hi HP z's.

well i know plently of people with bad syncros who still drive fine and it seems to be doing just that, so what are your toughts gang? worth fixing for now? or just let it go?

the syncros themselves seem to be working, possibly its a bearing associates with them.

Drain the tranny and look for metal. If you do not see any part numbers, refill and keep driving.
