Transistor ignition

I need help again! As stated some time ago, I'm restoring a 260z coupe. I'm using a 260z 2+2 for parts.
I switched the wiring harness and to my unexpected dilema, the 'transistor ignitions' are a bit different. The one that came out of the coupe is a six wire connector with a single white wire and the one out of the 2+2 is a five wire connector with NO single wire.
Can someone tell me why?
p.s. The part # for the transistor ignition for the coupe is E12-06 and the part # for the 2+2 isE12-05(both are manual transmissions)

I know for 75-76 (maybe other models also) non-cali models used dual pickup distributors and had 7 wires at the transistor unit.
Brown, Green, Red, Blue, White, Black w/ White, Black

Cali models used a single pickup and had 6 wires at the unit.
Green, Red, Blue, Black w/ White, Black w/ White, Black

The only white wire goes to the "advance control relay" which chooses the retard pickup coil until the engine warms up, then selects the advance pickup. This is a function of the transistor unit.

If you figure out more, or this made sense, then ask more.

I don't have enough electronic experience/backgroung to make sense of your response - but I'll go over the schematics and sift through it.
Thanks

stan260z, A couple of things look backwards in the above posts. I have an E12-05 in my manual late 260Z - original equipment - it has five wires. The FSM makes no differentiation between 2 seaters or 2+2's. Also, the FSM wiring diagram shows no solid white wire in either a manual or automatic model. But it does show a single wire - BLACK with YELLOW that goes to the E.G. R. relay. All the 260Z's I've seen, granted it is a small sample size, were manual 2 seaters both early and late versions and had no single wire. Could it be a U.S. model vs. an overseas model?

Automatics use dual pickup coils and ignition modules. A cold engine doesn't activate the Temperature Switch or Advance Control Relay thus allowing the ADVANCE circuit of the transistor ignition to operate. When engine temp. warms up the RETARD circuit of the transistor ignition operates.

The trans. ign. module is the same between single and dual pickups with the exception of the advance circuit. So I would tend to believe that you may be able to use a dual pick up transistor ignition module with a single pick up car and just have a wire not connected. It may be that somewhere in the past a module was swapped out - a six conductor ignition module replaced a failing five conductor and had no affect on operation or performance.

I'm not sure if this will clear up any of your questions or if it will raise a few more questions.
