i am putting a 82 zx tranny in my 1971 z, the tranny dosent come far enough back, and the shifter is hitting the counsel. Has anyone had this problem, if so, what did you do
I tried thay, the part on the tranny that the shifter goes into(the pin goes through the hole on the end of the shifter) is too far forward, and hits the car.
your trans may be up too high, meaning that the mount may be jackingup the trans. look at the two trans mounts and compare. the mount may be bacwards(it's been a while since i've done the swap)i think if you mount the trans X-member backwards, it will force the trans forward a bit.let me know what you find and good luck.. pallnet
I swapped an 83 5speed into my 240Z (1972) and it fits ok except the shifter is very close to the edge of the console in first, third or fifth. It's not touching but almost. The original shift boot isn't long enough, it pulls the boot out when shifting forward but other than that the swap was no problem and I didn't have to cut anything.
