I have a noise that sounds like gravel being poured into a large tin can
coming from the tailshaft of my tranny and driveshaft area.Heres what I have done.I have a 240 turbo conversion with the borg warner t-5 tranny
and the t-5 driveshaft cut down, rewelded and new replaceable u-joints
installed.I raised the back of the car and ran the car in gear on the stands.
the sound is loudest at 20mph and slowly goes away as I increase speed.
I have replaced both the tranny mount and the front diff mount, halfshaft
u-joints,and the r200 has been completely rebuilt. The noise seems to be
coming from the rear of the tranny, but when I remove the driveshaft it is
smooth and quiet at all speeds and in all gears.I must say that when
the shop cut and rewelded the driveshaft they shortened it too much and
the round flange area of the front yoke is not up inside the shroud that is part of the rear seal,in fact it is about half an inch away.Is the driveshaft
too short, out of balance or what? Im stumped cause I took the driveshaft
back to the shop to have the balance re-checked and they added weight to the rear but still the same noise. please help! sorry so long!
