Tranny flush

327 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Phoneman
I read an Blues tech help site, "maybe use diesel fuel" for a flush of the tranny......I have the car up on jacks all the way around, I have drained the tranny, plug is still out, ran it hot then drained, as suggested in Blues tech site. Now before I pump in the Red Line MTL 90 fluid, anyone used
diesel fluid ?, when it says flush with short fill, how much would that be?

Im trying the MTL due to a little bearing noise, not bad but I wanna see
if this stuff works to help. other wise tranny shifts and runs great.

So flush with what ?

Charles.

Where is the site that explains what speed cog you need with a rear end.

Mines a 3.54.......and I pulled the cog and its white, 19 teeth cog, dont think thats the right one.

omg you know what? its not the right one! ive got the white one too with a 3.54!! i dont know why, but the spedo is accurate! it doesnt make since!!! we are supposed to have the black speed cog....

its stonehenges page BTW
Yea I went to Nissan and with my vin number they looked it up, and yes its suppose to be black.......17 tooth, mine got messed up when I changed from a automatic to a late model 5 speed, I actually got the speedo cog out of the auto tranny before I junked it, but for the life of me I cant find it anywhere......23.00 later and 3 days I will have the right one.

Hard to believe I lost the dam thing, its here somewhere, but where?

And Im thinking yes it was black .

i've wondered this too. I've wondered if seafoam mixed in with the old fluid before you flush it and run it for maybe 50miles would breakup all the old sludge. But I have no idea if seafoam would damage the transmission. Otherwise you could fill up with some cheap tranny fluid. Run that for a while. then drain and refill with redline.
I though about just some cheap tranny fluid but Its hard to believe it would flush out anything, being as heavy as it is. The guy at the parts place said maybe just some light weight oil, but again, how would that actually flush anything really, diesel fuel seems like it would actually flush some gunk out, but hate to think it would mess with the sincros or the bearing, guess in the end Ill just let it drain real good then fill with MTL-90.

well the cheap tranny fluid or lightweight oil etc. would mix and thin out the old sludge so it drains out.
Re-visited Red line site and read where its not needed to flush tranny.
Yea..thats there story..who knows really.

"But I have no idea if seafoam would damage the transmission."

Apparently it has no effect, used both seafoam, mystery oil, and cheap
tranny fluid, ran it 75 miles, drained hot.....It was as clean as going in.

Filled with Red Line MTL 90, installed new speed cog. (black 17 tooth
removed a white 20 tooth, so I guess my speedo was reading faster
then my actual speed ?, or slower ? I guess slower.

Anyway just updating.
