I am stationed over at RAF Mildenhall UK and my 1979 Datsun 280 zx wont pass M.O.T. (they test almost every aspect of the car) because my front wheels shake (they jacked the front of the car off of the ground, held the steering wheel in place and shook the tire it wasnt suppposed to move, but it did, and he pointed out a little joint that kept popping out. he said it was the track rod ends. has anyone had a similar problem? what parts should I buy? I am in the UK and it is hard to find parts, let alone american spec. any help would be appreciated

Hi barracuda-----------The British call 'em track rod ends, here we call 'em tie rod ends. Usually the outer ones give out first, which is good because they're less expensive ($55 US from Motorsport). You can see the excess play in these joints by moving the wheel if they are worn out. Replacing them is no problem, but you should have the front end aligned afterwards. You will need to buy a pair--one left and one right side. Good luck!
